Our weekley fishing report.

May

Monday 28 April.
The stickmarsh is living up to its reputation this time of the year by producing a lot of fish. Generally the last of April threw the end of May the stick marsh its self starts to attract a lot of bass. This has got to be due to the bait fish migrating into the marsh.
On Monday I fished the north west section of the marsh and caught a lot of fish. I had 24 bass with 3 over 6 lbs. All the fish came on artificial baits. The best bait was a skinny dipper in a dark blue, also the black worm with a blue tail and the blue back rattletrap took several fish. The skinny dipper caught the largest ones. There have a lot of fish also caught on the sinko-swim bait in the dark blue.
I look for these fish to hang around this area and even move east during this month.

I had to fight the 20 mph south wind after dinner but still managed to catch some big crappie in the north west section of the farm right next to the main ditch on the humps of the old canal. All were 1 to 1 1/2 lb. All were caught on a 1/8 oz jig with a chartreuse trailer.

Today I was on the stick marsh again this time we were filming for a TV show to air later this year. I will publish the station and the date for ever one who may want to see it later.

I returned to the same area's as I was at on Monday and the fish were still there. The high wind on Monday and Tuesday had stirred the water up quite a bit but the fish still bit. The larger fish we not eating on this day probably because of the dirtier water. I also noticed that I had to work the baits slower and shake them on the stumps and in the brush a  hole lot more than on Monday. This is the normally routine when the water gets dirtier than the previous day, you have to make them hear the bait and hit them on the head. Ha!

After catching 19 bass the wind started coming up and we moved to the back lot. There has been bass in this area all year so I knew we could finish up in there. The eastern half of this section has held fish for the past 3 months and they are still there. The prime bait in this section was the worm. I know that a lot of the guides are throwing the swim sink but I can catch a lot more bass on the dark blue or black with a blue or purple tail  in the 7 and 8 inch size. We  ended up catching 9 bass in this area for a good productive day. One note on this area, it appears that the fish are mostly in the old canal and move on and off the flats randomly. We were able to set in one spot and catch fish, move 100 yards and come back in 20 minutes and catch more fish, and no the fish had no hook marks in them where we had caught them earlier. Ha!
